Canon 24-105L needs recalibrating (under Canon UK warranty)

I bought by 24-105L as part of my 5D II kit back in December last year. I went through all my lenses at the time and micro-adjusted them all on the 5D II, to ensure the focussing was spot on.

All of them were pretty good anyway - except the 24-105L, which was clearly not quite right.

Basically I have it microadjusted on the 5D II to +13, and it is as near perfect as it can be like that.

Of course if I want to stick it on a body which does not have microadjustment built in, it will be 'out'.

So, my thinking is that I should send it back to Canon (or whoever) for recalibration, particularly as it's still under warranty for another 8 months plus. I think +13 is probably well outside the usual tolerance..

Can anyone suggest the best place to send it to / take it (I live in Leicestershire). Will Canon pay the postage?

I haven't yet registered the warranty with Canon - I assume I'll need to do that first?

Thanks in advance..

Are you sure it's +13? I found my 5D2 and 24-105L varies a bit with focal length and focus distance - could be less than that at other settings. What have you been using as a test target?

There's quite a bit on AF micro-adjust if you search, including here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=208018&page=2&highlight=micro+adjust

The fact that it's a bit out on your 5D2 doesn't mean it will be out on another body. If you get the lens adjusted it could be doubly out on another camera.

I don't think Canon will even ask about warranty registration. All they want to see is a dated receipt with a UK dealer's address on it.

Speak to Canon directly at Elstree - I'm sure they will be able to offer help and advice
