Canon 24-105L??

Hi, just wandering how many people out there use this lens as a walk about lens on a crop sensor body in my case 60d!!
I've been wanting to off load a lens to get a walkabout lens and was leaning toward the canon 15-85 but have been offered a trade on this lens! I no I lose some of the range but will it be a case of you don't miss what you don't have!!

it depends entirely on your photography style. go into your library (if you use Lightroom) and see what focal length do you use the most?

i use 24-50 the most so putting it on a crop sensor means i'd have to constantly stepping back and/or not get the wide angle feel i wanted.

when i had crop, i wouldn't dream of putting a full frame lens as walk-about, 18-24 is the most useful range on a crop for me.

I used and still use one on crop bodies, 40D and now 7D.
It depends if you need wider than 24mm, I was OK as I had a sigma 10-22 mm ,without that I think I would have found it a bit limiting.
When I bought it the 15-85 was not available or I would have considered it.
Its a difficult call, I think if you are not thinking of FF ,where the 24-105 really shines, and are looking for a one lens solution then I would get the 15-85.

It all depend on what you are photographing. When I had my 40D (for 4 years) the default lens that was on it most of the time was my 24-105. I found it great as a single lens walk-around option for a 1.6 sensor (and now for my 5DII as well).

It is about the only lens (apart from my 500 F/4L) that I would take out on its own. Most of my other lens choices were always part of a 2+ lens combination (thus more weight) eg 10-22 + 24-105, or 17-40 + 70-200 f/4L IS.

I would recommend the 24-105
