Canon 24-70 f4 IS, anyone have experience?

I had a quick check and don’t see much about the Canon 24-70 F4 IS, does anyone have any experience.

I recently got a 5D Mk3 and am looking for lenses after having to get rid of my 17-55 F2.8. The f2.8 version appears to be amazing but it’s very expensive. I like the idea of primes, but maybe a small zoom will be more versatile initially, I can always add other lenses later on.

photozone.de and the-digital-picture have good reviews. Eventually this looks like a great landscape lens, but not at well over £1000. They slashed the price of new short IS primes, so this will have to be next, once 24-105 is sold out.

You could get Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 with IS for a lot less, or could live with slightly softer 24-105mm, or find good 24-70mm mk1.
 
Its just over £800 at a certain Hong Kong traders place which makes it attractive. To get the 2.8 version its a 500 quid step up. That is unless I go down the second hand route.

I'm not overly keen on the 24-105 as some say that whilst its a good solid lens, its nothing special, if I got one I think that niggle would always be there. I'm also getting a bit hung up on depth of field now I'm full frame.
 
I just bought a 24-105 with my 5D and already wish i had paid a few more £s on a 24-70 f2.8 MK2, not for any other reason than i know its a better lens and the niggle is there.
 
+1 here for the tamron 24 70 2.8 vc
Compared to the canon 24 70 mkii is half the price and 95% as good imho.
 
I have the 24-105 and I find it a great general purpose lens. It's sharp & quick to focus

I've owned the 24-105mm and original 24-70mm but if I had to choose one right now I'd go with the Tamron 24-70mm as it's supposed to be very close and is both f/2.8 with IS.
