Hi,
I currently use a Canon 400d and Sigma 18-200, along with the 1.8 nifty fifty. For my birthday next January I plan on upgrading my kit, with a budget of about £2500, since I've started taking photography much more seriously.
I'm certain of changing the 400d to a Canon 60d (can't quite stretch to 5dmk ii) Lens wise I was initially looking at the Canon 70-200L f4 IS, Canon 15-85 and Sigma 10-20. I mainly photograph my children, friends/family but also enjoy landscapes and street photography. I also do some interior photography, hence the 10-20 (I borrowed one of these from a friend for use in a small commissioned project and loved it) I'm also looking at the Canon 430 ex II flash.
Due to my brother recently purchasing the 24-70L and seeing the quality in the small number of images he's taken, I'm considering changing from new 15-85 and 70-200 to 2nd hand copies of the 24-70 and 70-200. This may or may not allow me to get the 10-20 and flash however.
To help me in my conundrum, can anyone offer advice on the difference in quality of the 24-70 over the 15-85? I'm concerned I'll miss the extra zoom (especially at the wide end) and wonder whether the trade off in quality and sharpness would be minimal, thus more beneficial to get the wider range of the 15-85 as it suits my shooting? I've read good things about the 15-85, some on POTN even calling it L quality? The fact I'm also unlikely to be able to afford the 10-20 and flash if I got the 24-70 also makes me wonder if it's worth it? Is it THAT much better than the 15-85?
