Considering upgrading my 24-104L to one of these but really stuck on the decision of going for v2 of this lens. I want to get opinions of what to do. Should I upgrade to the v1 lens or save up for v2? Is it worth the price difference?

Apparently both dont have IS despite a recent patent application from Canon.

Advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Mk2 is not available yet.

Mk2 would be a better option and u can order it on the digitalrev for around £1700-1800 on a 2 month waiting list.
Have u thought of the Tamron 24-70 VC USD? Stunning bit of glass £790

I'd question why you want to upgrade from the 24-105 - it's a really good general purpose zoom and if you want to play with thinner dof then I'd add a prime or two rather than paying a load of dosh for one stop.

If you're a wedding photographer who really needs that extra stop throughout the zoom range, fair enough, but for many people the 24-105 is more useful than a 24-70 - the IS gives more hand-holding ability than the extra stop provided by the 2.8 and you get more background blur @ 105mm f/4 than 70mm f/2.8. YMMV!
