canon 28-135mm

hey guys i'm looking at this lens at the moment. my questions are

is it a descent lens for the money? they seem to be aroud £200 used.

will i notice a big difference compared to my tamron 18-200mm with the canon being image stabalised?

i'll be using it on my 500d
 
I had the 28-135 for about 5 years and it's not a bad lens. Be aware that the IS is first gen, and is nowhere near as good as modern lenses. The image quality is good if you get a good copy. The AF will probably be better than the tamron If you can get one for a good price, go for it.

cheers Dean, i fancy going for it, cant really complain for the price, i'm off to the desert for 3 months soon so this will hopefully do the job nicely.
 
I ahve had this lens for just over a year and it is great for the money.

I had one, beware I found out about a issue. When pointing the lens down it could zoom out. Mine was not bad but never used it much. It was a nice lens to walk about with and mine took nice sharp pictures.
 
Good sharp lens but fairly heavy. Worth it for a few hundred quid.

You can buy a new one for £210 from Kerso. I considered it but in the end I went for a 18-135 instead as 28mm is not very wide on a crop sensor.
 
The 18-135 sounds a pretty useful range. Would be interesting to see what people think of the 2 lenses versus each other.

I had a 28-135 for a number of years and was very pleased with it and would def recommend.

Send Ian (Kerso) on here a PM and as above, you can buy a brand new one for a little over £200
 
i picked up a new one on ebay last night for £177 posted, very happy with that! looking forward to it coming!
 
It was the cheapest 'new' one I could find, and has a uv filter with it also, which has saved me probably £30 as it's 72mm.....
