Hi all,

After some advice on my 28-300mm L if possible. I was shooting at a motocross track today and the auo focus is playing up. Seemed worse when tracking bikes coming towards me, and got to a point where i started shooting Manual focus which wasnt ideal. The lens does have a little dust inside and could do with a clean - Could this be causing the problem?

Any recommendations as to where to send it to be repaired? Also time scale? and of course dredded question roughly how much a clean and inspection is likley to set me back

Thanks in advance, Andy

The lens simply follows commands from the body so you'd also have to consider the possibility that the body is causing the problem. AF can cut through a lot of internal lens dust without obvious issues so I'd be inclined to dismiss that theory.

I'm assuming that you were using AIServo and that you got OOF shots in a burst?

Bob - Yes i do use AI Servo, but was not shooting in burst's. The lens seemed to struggle to focus completley - Was using a 50d with it and swapped it over to my 40d but it wasnt any better - So can only presume its the lens.

Daugirdas - I have never had an issue with my 20d, 40d or 50d with moving objects - Always had good results.

I already feel lost without my trusty 28-300mm L. Since I had a load of my camera gear stolen last year (including my old 70-200mm 2.8 is) its been my first choice lens for most motorsport events i cover. Need to get it back up and running although now is also proberly the time to buy another 70-200 2.8 is.
