Looking to get a shorter prime and I'm wondering peoples views before I buy.

I'd look elsewhere then. FD is a different bayonet mount to EF, you'd need an adaptor for it to mount (it would be entirely manual, no AF or auto aperture control). Plus FD doesn't adapt well to EF, you either need expensive adaptors or they degrade quality as they need optics in the adaptor.

If you're fine with all manual then have a look for something in a different mount to adapt, lots of mounts adapt well to EF with cheap adaptors, FD just doesn't happen to be one of them.

Thank you for the help I now know why it was so cheap.

Just thought as it was cheap I would have it but if it's that much agro I'll leave it :-(

It's a pity those manual focus FD lenses are no longer compatible with current Canon bodies as this page

really shows how the FD lenses were constructed with really good quality compared with the plastic canon EF lenses of today.
For example look at the quality of the focus ring, and the nice clear markings for distance, dof and aperture and compare that with the "dumbed down" markings that you find on most modern lenses.

Doesn't bother me. Lots of potential to adapt other mount to EF, there's plenty of excellent M42, K, OM, C/Y, leica R and nikon F mount lenses instead if you're looking for cheap solid as rock old lenses.

I do love my little pentax 50mm f/1.7, though I'm only using it on film at the moment. All metal with a beautifully dampened focus ring. I wish they'd make modern macro lenses with focus rings that nice.

I have a 50 1.8 and I could not live without that!

I think I will get a 24 and a 85 as I don't think you can beat a good prime( even if you do have to walk more :-( )
