Any thoughts on the real world differences between the two lenses?
Clearly the 28mm is slight wider, goes a little wider in the aperture and has USM, however it also costs nearly 50% more. Is it really worth the money?

Optically, not a great lot in it

Build quality, while the 35mm is good the 28mm F1.8 is excellent - it has ring type USM autofocus which is quieter and more accurate too.

It it worth the extra, only you can truly decide. Personally to me it isn't - I had the 28mm F1.8 but find the field of view provided by the 35mm more usable. It is harder to make wide, fast lenses which will be some of the cost.

I certainly would prefer the 28mm 1.8. Mind you i like shooting wide shots with shallow DOF. The 1.8 means i can stop down for equiv apeture and be a bit sharper around f/2. I also rather a lens that gives me a croppable image rather to narrow to give the desired effect. (obviously if for some reason space to frame is limited.) It will be one of my next lenses.
