Canon 300d date/time issue

Hi there - wonder if anyone can help?

A while back I tried to update the firmware on my 300D since then the date and time are always set to 00/00/0000 00:00 when I turn the camera on, it makes no difference to the camera taking pics but obviously is very annoying when i import pics into iphoto as the date/time is wrong (I get round this by doing a batch adjust but wish i didnt have to)

Even if I reset the date/time the moment i turn it off and then back on again it goes back to 0 - I have changed the date/time battery twice just in case and I still have the same prob, I even bought a new main battery but still the problem persists.

Have posted on a few other sites and no one seems to have heard of the firmware messing up their camera . . . am I just that unlucky?? I have tried resetting the firmware etc but no joy.

Thanks in advance

Sorry in advance Leigh but would it be offensive to suggest that you're putting the button cell in upside down.....you wouldn't be the first.

Hi & Welcome

As above, you double checked it was the exact same button cell wasn't it, can you test the button cell to ensure it's not a duff one ? Have you tried to re do the firmware update to see if this helps at all ?

I still use my 300D, but wasn't aware of a firmware update for it. Is this the Russian one that unlocks various 10D features.? It may be that this also disables the clock. Other than that, I agree with the others that it may be your internal battery (mine is still going strong after 4 years).

hahaha Canon Bob - no offense taken, I have triple checked the battery and it's defo in the right way and I have tried 2 brand new ones - Every time I try and flash back to the original firmware the camera won't read the CF card that it is on.

Just as an update if I put the original firmware on the CF card, when I turn the camera on it just flashes the word EOS at me in the display!

Recently updated firmware on an old 300D to the Russian version, flippin marvellous!!
No problems at all.
If you didn't use that, maybe give it a try!
Find it here, obviously...it's at your own risk.
