Canon 300mm f2.8

I'm looking to get a used Canon 300mm f2.8. I am, however confused as to what is the latest version and what is the one it superseded? The descriptions seem very similar, so also do the images of them I've seen.

IIRC, there was a non-IS, the IS Mk I and the current IS Mk II.
