Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if you would be willing to help me out.

I've currently got a 300mm F2.8L USM (NON IS) with a 1.4x TC to go with it.

Just wondering if you had any experiences or recommendations as to which 2x TC to get?

I'm not wanting amazingly fast focussing but relatively accurate would be nice :)
Would you go for a MKI or MKII?

I went for the MKII

Difference in price was about £40 and it seemed worth it to get the better item. That said I use the IS 300mm F2.8 and wanted to retain weather sealing.

Is the speed of focussing pretty good/ accurate?

I can't imagine it would be miles slower on the non-is version tbh.

Thanks Chris, tbh quite honest the weather sealing isn't a massive worry to me, and no I'm not a good weather photographer :P I have one of those weather proof lens covers.

I might just put a few extra quid down and get the MKII by the sounds of it.

Anyone got an old 300mm F2.8 non-is to confirm?
 
My AF speed with the 2x on is perfectly adequate.

Of course it is slower than without - but still very snappy.

Still use my 300mm f4, but I was luck to get a mint condition 300mm f2.8 MKI a couple of years back and just love it, great lens and easily hand holdable and works well with the MKII TC's, even the 1.4x and 2x TC stacked in the right conditions.

Of course with everything, you need the right conditions to get the best results and haven't done much aviation recently.

Good to know they produce some sharp results even with the 1.4 attached aswell.

Looking forward to getting hold of one, especially as they're only around £200
