Canon 300mm+ Lens Advice

Hello guys and girls,
Ive recently purchased the tamron 28-300mm lens from Currys for £365, but they have now screwed me over and dont have it in stock for the next 2-3 months. :bang:

Does any one here have any experience and advice on a 300mm lens with stabalisation for around £400. Obviously i want a good one but i know its not gonna be the best on my budget.

Any experience on lenses from you guys would be fantastic.
 
You could pick up a second hand canon 300mmL,no IS for around the £400 mark,do you really need IS.:)
 
Having read your OP, a question springs to mind. There is a MASSIVE difference between 28mm (the Tamron at the widest end) and 300mm - Are you saying that you now want to consider a 300mm prime or do you still want the wide end? When you ordered the 28-300 you wanted the wide end - Are you saying that you no longer want that?

Sorry, just think that will clear things up fpr me anyway!!
 
Hehe, sorry. purchased the 28-300mm so it would cover my two current lens in one lens.
I still want it to be variable so dont mind a 70-300mm etc but want it to end in 300mm or more.
 
So, you want a minimum length of 300mm and do still want a telephoto.

Mmm, what other lens's do you have? Are you going to move them on and are aiming for just one lens to cover the lot?

well im selling my two lenses in the sales thread to cover this one then saving up for the sigma 10-20.
Currys are really P***ing me off at the moment though, they've started putting my refund through and have now found one last lens. but i cant have it as they're already processing my refund and i wont have the money for 4 days. AHH!
Wont be shopping with them again.
 
yeah gonna stick with the currys one when they finaly give me my money back. Its £100 cheaper than ive seen anywhere else.
and the canon 70-300 ive seen for £250 non IS and £450 IS.
 
Sounds like a Canon 70-300mm IS would be a good choice for you

As already mentioned, the Canon 70-300mm IS is a decent option. Sharp enough at the long end at f8. Bit soft wide open. I also have an original 300/4l non IS which I picked up for £400 used. This blows the zoom away, obviously. Avoid the cheaper Tamron 70-300mm in my opinion, it's soft at the long end with lots of purple fringing.
 
The new Tamron 70-300mm VC is reputedly better than the similar Canon

Agree the old cheaper one is a bit below par though
