Canon 30D Shutter button

Hi all,
Suspect that I'm going to end up sending this off for repair but any suggestions for anything to try first?.

Problem is that occasionally (usually for a now or missit forever shot) the shutter button won't fire the shutter instantly. Holding it down will eventually result in it firing anywhere from one to 15 secons after it was pressed.
Initially I thought it was trying to focus the first few times it happened, but it does it even in manual focus. The shutter button on the grip works instantly as it always had so (i think) that rules out the lens contacts.

It's 21 months old, and has around 9800 clicks.....

Has anyone else had this problem at all?

Should be OK for fixing (I got the 3 year warranty).

never had that problem with mine sorry - 3 1/2 years old, done about 130k clicks iirc

I had the same problem, tightened up my locking wheel which occasionally came loose and problem solved for me, hope it's the same for you.

Marcel had this problem about a year ago. Might be worth searching out his thread on it

EDIT: Here you go. LINKY :)

I had a 'sticky' shutter on my 50D - fix was £ 40

Did you go direct to Canon or through a third party (my extended warranty is a Jessops one). Thing is It's my only camera so would rather get it sorted quickly. 4 weeks without it would be more than a little tricky (not to mention missing a whole mionth of POTY) and I can afford a £40 fix.

Marcel had this on his 30D - don't know if he sorted it though?

Looking like it's a fairly commion thing - Found a youtube video on how to clean it all yourself (for a 20D) - don't think I'll be attempting any DIY on it

I took mine to Norfolk Cameras Dereham (local indy specialist who do their own repairs) and it was done in under a week. Tried to claim off my warranty for Digital Rev but eventually gave up as it was too much hassle to persist. Had it been for more I'd have persisted....

Cheers for the link, interesting reading. Nice to see that Canon were so helpful, kind of glad that I got the extended warranty now (though not tried to use it yet)

If you tighten the grip, be careful that you don't shred the gears.....

I saw that thread too - wouldn't be too chuffed about that. :shake:

Cheers for the info, shame I'm not near Norfolk.
Going to try and find a local repairer for a quote, then ring Jessops to see what they say (assuming that a repair from someone else will then invalidate my remaining warranty). After reading Marcel's original thread, it's definitely going to need sorting while under warranty.

You mean the locking wheel on the grip right? I'll try that, but it's the shutter on the body that's the problem. In fact, might even try it without the grip for a while.

Yep, the grip button would work fine but not on the camera, the locking wheel came a little lose, a little tighten and all was good again.

This has happened not many times but enough to consider a 1DIIn :naughty:

Ok, I thought it was just me, but this happens on my Canon20D backup body- sometimes. Though, its always got a grip on, so not really a bit deal. Will read up though- cheers.
