Canon 35L or 24-70 ?

Specifically for wedding use.

Anyone changed from using the 24-70 to the 35L 1.4 OR vice versa ?

I guess it's dependant on which other lenses are used in combo/style of shooting but curious to see who prefers using the 35L ?

I realise each has it's own merits but I'm fortunate to be seconding on a couple of weddings next month and was gonna hire one or both to see how I get along.

Like to hear from thosewho have use/used both and in combo with which other lenses ?

I have a 28-70 (the predecessor to the 24-70) as well as the 35. FWIW I pick up the 35mm about 95% of the time, it is an absolute gem.
PS, I don't do weddings, just general photography, so I have much more time to compose than a wedding tog. There is just something about the 35mm. If I were a wedding tog I would use the 35mm for the stuff where you have more time (bride getting ready etc, posed shots before the wedding), and the zoom during the wedding where time is critical.

I've shot a handful of weddings now with the Nikon 35 and 85mm. I sold the 24-70mm to buy the 35mm and don't regret it one bit. The 35mm is such a gorgeous focal length, with just the right amount of "space" in the frame to tell a story and give the shot context. And at f1.4-f2 you still get just enough depth of field to isolate the background, but still be consistent for focusing on moving subjects etc.

But as mentioned above, it really does depend on how you shoot and what other lenses you are pairing it with. The 24-70mm is a popular wedding lens for a reason!

If you have only 1 lens:

24-70L

If you have a 85/1.8 or 1/4 or 1.2 to go with it.

35L all day long, especially if you have another FF body.
