Damn, just been outbid on ebay in the last 5 seconds.

I have seen so many nice reviews on this lens and having tried it out on a "not for sale" unit in Jessops I WANT IT!

But not available anywhere. Spoke to a bunch of shops who are lamenting the fact that Canon are not shipping the stock they want and not willing to pay £300 (50% over market price) for the privilege of owning now.

Ooo, 2 votes for an alternative. Will start looking at reviews on photozone and slrgear now.
 
I used to be in the same boat. really wanted to want the 35mm f2.
+ saw the auction in ebay. I would've hoped to get it for 90ish pounds ! :D
 
The siggy gets decent but not great reviews, whereas the Canon 35 f2 always gets fantastic reviews, often better than a nifty-fifty even on just a value for money comparison.

I know that if I buy something else I will end up spending more in the end. I guess I will have to wait until Canon start shipping again.

Just out of interest Dave, why did you sell yours?
 
The Canon 35 f/2 spends a lot of time on my 5D.

As mentioned above, it's very compact and weighs nothing. It's my 'go to' lens for less conspicuous street and urban photography or when I just want to travel light. In the absence of an EF pancake, it's about as stripped down as a 5D can get.

In practice, 5 blades is rarely a problem, at least on full frame. Somehow it's less noticeable than with the 50mm f/1.8 where I did find it got in the way occasionally. I've never used it on a crop body, so I'm not sure how much difference that would make.

These are about the busiest examples of the 35's bokeh I could find. Some pictures I've seen of on the bokeh the Siggy 30mm have been considerably more intrusive.

It's certainly not the quietest lens that I own, but I don't notice the sound most of the time.

I'm often surprised how sharp it can be and the distortion is quite low. I use it frequently for stitched panos.

when i first got mine i had a Canon 350D. I could attach the 35mm f/2 and fit it in my jacket pocket. Ive not had a prime since that would allow me to do that.

The bokeh from the Canon lens look hexagonal. Siggy 30mm f1.4 for me :)
 
I got one! Good old LCE.
Browsing on their 2nd hand gear yesterday saw one in stock at Derby. Anxious wait until store opened today then quick drive to Derby.
 
Amazing luck. Excellent price, mint condition and 6 months left on warrenty.
I think I must have one of the only available ones left in the country. Will be ideal as my business travel lens. Can't wait for the clouds (and my work) to clear then out to take some photos!
 
It's the power of the TP forums. Next week I will post a moan about how you can't buy a 5D MKII for less than £600.

I can dream, I can dream....
