Hi guys I won on ebay my camera and it arrived today, I am well pleased with it, it is very clean no scratches marks or anything on it, and it is just like the seller said it would be.

Now flicking through posts on here last night someone mentioned about being able to see how many pics the camera has actually taken in its life time, not sprecific to mine but just about someone elses.

trouble is i looked tonight but cannot find this anywhere either on the cam or in the instruction manual.

Is this feature on this model and if so can someone tell me where it is please.

Thanks

Spike

P.S woohoo picture taking here I come

If the camera has been set to "Continuous" file-numbering it's whole life then when you take a picture and review it on the camera it will have, as part of it's name, the number of the shot. Using this method I can easily see my 400D has taken exactly 8400 shots (not alot).

If for some reason the numbering has been reset at some point in the cameras life then you will probably need a piece of software to find out. I've never used it but I hear Opanda (http://www.opanda.com/) can be used for this. Simply take a picture using the camera then transfer to a computer in Opanda and somewhere in the information will be the relevant details on how many actuations the camera has done.

Hope this is correct, and helpful of course.

Point numer 11. You need to read the instructions carefully all the way through and do exactly as it says. It's a bit of work to find the shutter count, but the upside is you'll have spot metering and iso 3200!

It involves putting a small file on the root of your CF card and making it bootable. I've done it and it works very well.

Thanks for that

Ok I have had a little play and it looks like the guy before me had it set to "continuous" so sofar so good.
I took a pick and looked at it and in the top right corner is some numbers which read

107-64

so i took a pic and it went to 107-65 so took another and it went to 107-66 etc etc so what does this mean???

Thanks again

Ok, well mine reads 242-8400.

So it would seem that the previous owner has taken less than 100 images with it. That however, seems very unlikely so I would imagine that the file numbering has been reset at some point. It would be best to double check with the software I mentioned before. If indeed the camera has only done 66 actuations then it has alot of life left in it yet.

Hi thanks guys

Bomberman, thats a good little hack but I cannot understand it at the mo so willl have to look at it another time with an IT bloke I know lol.

Tom I downloaded that program and I did what it said, it gave me masses of info on the pic itself but cannot seem to find the actuations bit.
I donot believe for one second that the cam has taken less than 100 pics but i got alot of extra stuff like 3 spare batteries and a grip that have never been used so maybe but i doubt it.
Be nice to know though.
Thanks again

Spike

About the hack, it took me a couple of attempts but i got it on the second go. If anything goes wrong format the card via your pc (right click -> quick format) and everything should be back to normal. It will tell you the exact shutter count and spot metering is awesome!

I wish I could understand what they were talking about! That sounds like a wicked hack but I have no idea how to do it, even after reading the thread through and through. :shake:

Has anyone written out that hack but in English?? aha. like where do i get the 'testfir.fir' file from, i clicked on the link but it took me to a forum?

nice one - I'm now giving it a go but Im pretty sure it won't work, as i don't have a clue what some of it means. but wikipedia and common sense is helping me :/

I still have not done the hack thing yet but i emailed the guy saying that I do not really care but could you tell me the count off the top of you head, meaning that i should get a more honest answer.
he replied with, a holiday and approx 150 pics a month over the 3 yeasrs he owned it so even if you add a few thousand to that its still less that 10K.

So working on the fact that its done less than 10K is this normal???
