Canon 400d - Sigma 70-300. Dark to look through.

I never use the above anymore, but this weekend Mrs FlyTvr was using the kit when she said "Auto focus isn't working properly". In a typical bloke way I replied - "Don't be stupid - pass it here!".

I looked through the view finder and although we were in bright sunshine the view was like dusk. I scratched my head and came up with no solution.

It has now righted itself - probably through some vibration in the back of the car.

Any ideas?

Hit DOF preview with it at F8 is that what it looked like?

Certainly a stuck aperture there.. Autofocus stops working when there isn't enough light to detect contrast differences. If it was a stuck shutter (god forbid), part of the image would be completely black.. so there's not much else it can be.

Sounds like a service is in order.
