Canon 400D - time for an upgrade?

I have had my Canon 400D for several years now and was wondering if it is time to update the camera to, say, a 600D especially as there are some good offers around at the moment. Would I be gaining a lot by changing or is the 400D still a good camera when compared with current models? I would be buying a body only as I have a 50mm f1.8, 18-55mm and 55-250mm Canon lenses in my kit already.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
 
What is limiting you with the 400D ?

By that I mean what is it about the camera that is holding you back or what are you wanting to do with your photography that the 400D doesn't allow you to do ?

Hi Phil and thanks for the reply. My thing about this camera is that my partner seems to get as good if not better shots with her new Sony compact which is full of the latest technology. I do not pretend to be any kind of expert with the camera but feel I am competent enough to get some good shots. I try to use manual settings as opposed to the auto modes and results have been reasonable. I just thought that the latest cameras may have better technology to help the likes of me!
 
For and upgrade, I wouldn't consider another xxxd series, as good as they are.

The 600d is certainly a good deal better than the 400d feature wise, but IMO you would be better off spending slightly more and going for the 60d.

The ergonomics and speed of the xxd range make a much more worthy upgrade.

Image quality has far more to do with the lens used rather than the body.

You have invested in decent lenses I take it? If not, you wouldn't have got anywhere near the limits of the image quality of the. 400d.

EDIT - re read you op. you should be getting better shots with your kit than the oh with the compact!

Personally i'd upgrade the glass before the body, i'm using the 450d, so only slightly newer than your 400, and getting some pleasing results (IMHO), but using Sigma glass (10-20 and 17-70)....

Just my 2p :)
 
Agree with what others have said about quality of lenses. Something like a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 will bring your photography on much further than a new body would IMO.
 
I would go as other have said and invest in lenses depeninh on what you like to shoot, i upgraded my 55-250 to a 70-200 F4 and the difference on my 20D body is incredible, speed of focus, sharpness and i got many more keepers than i did with the 55-250.
