Hi,

I am completely new to photography and this website!

I would love to take up photography as a hobby and have been thinking about it for ages, but never gotten around to actually doing anything about it.

I am now starting to look at buying a second hand digital slr (as I can't afford to buy new at the moment.)

What are people opinions on the Canon 400D as a starter camera.
Also what are peoples opinions on buying from a trusted seller on e-bay?

Good camera, ideal for a beginner and beyond... I assume you are talking second hand from Ebay?? if so then this is the ideal way to buy it, just make sure they have plenty of good feedback and that it's a good price before you get it.

I think the 400D went to Secure Digital (SD).
ebay is a mixed bag, look at people's feedback and use paypal for some reassurance.
people on here also sell if you go through the forums, the same rules apply generally

The 400D uses compact flash, its the 450D that uses SD. Very good cameras, especially for beginnners. I have one in the classifieds by the way :)

Hmmm thing is with ebay it's abit of pot luck if you get a camera that been well looked after, even if they say it has been in the discription.
 
Good camera, I have one for 18 months now and like it.

Although I dare say as you get more into photography the more advanced features of bigger better more expensive cameras help. But the 400D is good place to start.
 
I agree the camera will be great for you, but I do hate ebay with a passion, I`ve been ripped off quite a few times both as a seller and a buyer. I think it would be a better bet buying from an enthusiast on the forums, but personal choice I guess. :thumbs:
 
the 400D is a cracking first camera, i've used it to get me into SLR photography from using an old fuji bridge camera before that. there are plenty of accessories, the camera is easy to use and will cater for just about everything you will throw at it. Further more, as I've found, there are no shortage of people using it to lend advice around here!

400D is a very good camera, i have one as my main and a 300D as my second. As already noted you will more than likely grow out of the 400D in a couple of years and get a xxD or even a xD, but its a great place to start.

Again as noted already have a look in the classifieds on the forum.

I would avoid ebay like the plague, i prefer to shop at LCE. A quick search has shown that LCE have 6 used 400D + 18-55 for £299-399 in various places around the country.
