Does anyone know if Canon's 1.4x and 2x convertors will work with their 400mm f2.8 NON IS lens?

Thanks - Simon.

Shouldn't see any reason why the 400mm f2.8 (non IS) wouldn't work with the 1.4x and 2x TC's

A point to note, the 400 2.8 ver I is no longer supported by Canon if repairs are needed you have to send to an independent repair shop and from my understanding parts are very hard to find.

Definately can.

I have an old v1 model (~20 years old) and frequently use 1.4 or 2.0 on it.

I do find that in harsh sun, you can get some slight CA when using 2.0x

This was 800mm at Mallory a few weeks ago.

Excellent, thanks.

I understand that there is a Mark I model and a Mark II model. What is the easiest way to tell which model is which?

Also what would you expect to pay for a Mark I or a Mark II?

Thanks - Simon.

It seems the lens I'm looking at is a Mark I. The body of the lens is in reasonable cosmetic condition, with no faults and the guy wants £2100 for it.
Is that a reasonable price?

This is it...

That's cleaner than mine..
Does it come with a hood and flight case?

Mine had a broken screw on the hood which means it cannot be screwed onto the lens, as such I have to tape it on, not too much of a problem, but a new hood is £300+!

Oh I paid 1650 for mine a few years ago, never seen one that cheap since!

I would think 2k is a fair price

Yeh it comes with the original hood and flight case. £1650 was a bargain! I am very tempted. I'll have to ponder on it a bit longer.

Thanks.

don't let it pass you by if your serious about one... they don't come up often, even the old ones!
