canon 400mm f2.8 non IS

Has anyone got the older versions of the 400mm canon lens?
How does it perform, i shoot mainly sports and football

Still a great lens but not supported by Canon for spares or repair

The mark 2 version is far better optically. I'd be cautious about buying a mark 1 - very old, no spares knocking around and not the sharpest version available

very very heavy.. had one and gave up on it.. too heavy and not perfect..
