Hi guys,
Please see my problem below. Short of send ing it for repair I hope someone can help.
Basically I have started to get Err99. This happens if the camera is power cycled (ie off then on) or if the camera returns from standby. If either of these 2 situations occur, then the first photograph taken reports Err99. To remove the error I either have to open the CF card cover then close it. or open the battery cover then close it. Either of these 2 things clears the err99 and I can then use the camera normally until either a power down or a standby.
I have tried various things to correct this - different CF cards, different lenses, different batteries etc etc.
The only time I get a different result is by removing the CF card. Then the Err99 doesnt occur after power down.
I have cleaned lens contacts, battery contacts etc etc. no difference.
This problem apart, the camera works perfectly.
Without me sending the camera in for investigation would you have any idea what is potentially wrong ?
It is obviously related to power cycling. The CF card door and the battery door both have microswitches which shut the power down.
I also just realised - when the power is shut down by opening either of the doors, the camera doesnt do a sensor cleaning. This must be related. After a switch off or standby, auto sensor cleaning is enabled which seems to then trigger the err99 on the first shutter relaease.
I also tried to disable the auto cleaning in the menu, but it always reverts to auto enabled for some reason. So I cannot swicth off auto cleaning which I think is the source of my problem. If I do a "cleannow" from the menu, I dont get err99. But when I perform clean now from the menu, I can hear the shutter or the mirror or something click. As far as I can remember auto cleaning has never made this clicking noise - should it ?
Any idea why my camera doesnt allow me to disable auto cleaning ?
I have tried resetting default values and also upgraded firmware to 1.1.1 but still I cannot disable autocleaning and still I get err99.
Appreciate any help or advice given.
