Yes
Ve just had a look and to my surprise I'm only on firmware version 1.0.8

Is it possible to go straight to version 1.1.1 do you think?

I would think so. I got a 20d a few weeks ago and it was still on V1.0.0 and I updated it to V2.1.3 or something like that (whatever the last release was) and it worked fine.

Yes you can

ive just checked my 600D & its saying V 1.0.1 and on canons webpage its V1.0.2 if i update it will it invalidate my warranty as its only 6 months old.?

also what will i gain from doing the update.? is it worth the risk.

thanks.

It will not invalidate your warranty.

Changes
Firmware Version 1.0.2 incorporates the following fixes and improvements.

1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the AF does not function and the shutter cannot be released during Live-view shooting when the Speedlite 270EX II is attached.
2. Corrects wording in the Italian and Portuguese language menu screens.

thank you for the quick reply..

i dont see the point in me doing the upgrade then as i dont speak Italian and Portuguese & dont have a Speedlite 270EX so wont benefit for either of them..

cheers

As everyone else has already said, and for the avoidance of any possible doubt, the answer was yes. Worked perfectly. Thanks to everyone that replied.

Never thought about checking mine! Will do tonight!

Don't forget you can install different picture styles, technicolor and marvel ones if I remember. I got great results from RAW shot using Technicolor

Sorry I dont quite follow what you mean?

Well along with upgrading your firmware you can install picture styles ie like you have portrait, landscape etc already and they are kind of presets that you can use on your raw or jpegs
