Canon 40d, flash guns

Evening all

So I'm new to photography and a friend has recommended a flashgun to help improve some shots, but I have no idea what gun to get for my camera above?

Suggestions please and not ones that will cost the earth as I'm yet to be convinced it will help or that'll I'll use it much...

Ok if your not wanting a budget busting camera then I would suggest looking at either Jessops, Nissin or Yongnuo flashes.

For your canon you are looking for ETTL speedlites. These allow the camera to adjust the flash power depending on light metering conditions, when attached to the camera's hotshoe.

The Yongnuo's can be picked up fairly cheap, not sure about the others though.

I got my Metz 48 AF-1 for £150 i think,cant remember the site,but it got a brilliant review from digital camera towards the end of 2009 coming first and the canon ex430II coming 3rd. you will need do some searching about though. Alternatively, look at Gumtree and Ebay
