I've had a 40D I bought used on ebay (from a well rated ebay shop, not just 'some guy' selling his camera) for a couple of months, and it's started developing a slightly irritating issue.
The picture styles menu will randomly pop up on the screen when the camera is in use or just on 'standby'.
I'm absolutely certain I'm not pressing the button by accident, my hands are nowhere near the button most of the time.
When I first received the camera it wasn't doing this. For the first couple of months it would do something similar, the picture styles menu would pop up without me pressing the button, but it only did it very very rarely, and only when I was operating other menus, never just in general operation, so I didn't think anything of it.
But over the last month it has started doing it often, potentially any time the camera is turned on.
This is a little worrying. It's a minor annoyance at the moment, because it sometimes does it when I'm using menus forcing me to open the menu again, and if it does it while I'm looking through the viewfinder, the shooting details disappear from below the image, and I have to half press the shutter to get them back up.
The 40D is low usage, it's only got very small marks and only had 7kish actuations when I bought it.
I wonder if it's dust trapped in the button? There is a small smattering of dust inside the LCD screen on the back, right above the picture styles button, which was there when it arrived, but I ignored because it isn't in any way a hindrance, but it could mean there is also dust inside the button directly below it? I've tried jiggling the button about, A LOT and blasted at the button with a rocket blower, but that hasn't had any effect.
It's a little worrying, because it's irritating, and it has gotten worse, there is a chance it could continue to get even worse?
Does anyone have any suggestions for possible fixes/ things to try?
