Yes
Hi Guys,

I have just received my 40D this morning, and I went to take a few images outside.

Now, when I review them in the camera, where the sky is bright and I guess blown out, it shows the picture fine, but then the blown out section changes to black, and then back to normal, and then to black etc.

Is this a feature I can turn off? Or is there a problem with the camera.

I just transfered the images onto the laptop and they seem fine.

Its the highlight alert switched on so no problem with the camera and I'd suggest leaving it on

How can I switch it off mate? I will put it back on afterwards, just learning to play with my new toy! :D

Yep it's highlight alert. In the 4th menu page you can disable it.

It's a really useful feature, either do as above, or reset all settings- something I would do if it's a 2nd hand camera etc :) (unless that's on by default...)

That's known as blinkies! Don't turn them off! They're one of the most useful features ever for controlling exposure. If you don't want them to flash, don't over expose! They're telling you sky is blitzed to pure white and they tie in with the far right hand side of the histogram.
