Canon 430 vs 580 speedlites.

So basically, i'm wanting to get my first off camera flash, don't have much cash, and i'm wondering whether it's worth the extra £90 to get the 580 over the 430.

Never used off camera flashes before, and i really want to start being able to photograph me and my friends when we're out on the mountain bikes.

The 430 EX can be got for about £140, with the 430EXII at about £180, whilst the 580EXII can be got for about £230 from the uk via google.

Which would you recommend for the money, obviously a lot of people will say the 580, but i want to know whether the price is worth the extra performance. I won't be using it too often though.
 
I went for the 550EX - seems to be a good compromise if you're on a budget ;)

they tend to go for less than £120 on ebay, so less than a 430EX - yet have most of the features found on the 580EX.
 
Right, i've decided on the 430EX, but another question.

is it worth waiting until the 430 EX II to be released, and get the mk2?

or will the price of the mk1 drop significantly?
 
Ant, I was wondering the same thing but I doesn't look like the mark II will have that much of an improved performance anyway. Let us know how you get on
