I've used the astrojargon shutter count app and it reports the shutter count is 15221.
The last photo I took is labeled IMG_5231.CR2.
I'd be very surprised if I have taken over 15K shots but I have no idea which is correct.
Any ideas?

Have you ever used the camera with a card which has been in another camera? If you have, then the image filename is totally unreliable as a guide to the shutter count.....

The 15k shutter count is possible, ive take 2k shots in 2 days which i was supprised about, shots fly when you are having fun.

My EOS400D very recently ticked over the 10,000 count... something of a minor milestone.

It made me check my 'output' rate.

I got the camera in May 2007, for the next 18 months as I was getting to grips with it I'd taken 300 images/month. I was at 6000 by the end of Jan 2009.

It has taken me quite some time to get to grips with it and only this year have I been able to invest some time and get some proper photography under my belt.

My rate has shot up, 600+ per month now and I'm sat at just over 12,200 count.

I think I'd read somewhere that the rated life was around the 100k mark... so even at a fairly high usage it should have years left in it. Can't see myself getting shut of it though - even when shiny replacements come along it'll still be an old-friend there as a backup.
