canon 450d shutter problem

Long story short, I wan in manual mode and i wasnt a really fast shutter speed, it wouldnt let me go above 1/200?

any reasons?!

1/200 is your camera's maximum flash sync speed, basically it won't allow you to use any shutter speeds higher than that.

page 75 of the manual

You can set both the shutter speed and aperture as desired. With flash, the
flash exposure will be set automatically to match the aperture that was set.
The flash sync speed can be set to bulb, or from 30 sec. to 1/200 sec.

If you want to go above 1/200th, then you can set the flash (or later cameras) to Hi speed flash mode.
