canon 450d vs nikon d3000

im going to be buying one of these in the next few days. The nikon is cheaper so im being drawn to that one. but i'm being told the canon is much better.
Is it best to pay £100 more and go for the canon? is there a big difference between these? thanks
 
entry level canon is the 1000D
are these a fair comparison?

Deciding factor for me was the lack of Autofocus motor onboard the lower end Nikons which rules out any AF on cheaper lenses like the 'nifty fifty' etc...

I love Nikon and if I was buying at a higer level I'd probably go back to them but I cant afford all expensive lenses (in comparision)

pretty much the exact reason why I went for canon over nikon. Though Nikon now has D5000 which is a better match to 450d and 500d i believe.
 
As above, the D3000 normally gets reviewed against the 1000D not the 450D. If you can afford the 450D, then go for it :thumbs:
