Canon 500mm f4.5L lens prices

The EF 500mm USM f4.5 L?
It's quite an old lens now (Circa early 90s), discontinued, and finding one new will be tough. But if you can find a good condition second hand copy for a good price, go for it. It's a great lens, sharp as a tack, lacks IS which is an issue for some, that's up to you. Good luck finding one!
Unless you mean the 500mm f4, which is far newer, and much easier to get a new copy, plus it has IS.

One for 1500GBP. A LOT of glass for the money but I'd worry about repair issues this is now legacy glass. Someone at Fixation or Elstree may tell you otherwise ?
Personally, I'd probably avoid (well I have !)
The Sigma 500f4.5 is a reasonable alternative or do what everyone else does and get a 300f.2.8 with tcs.
