Looking at getting in the water with my 50D I don't really have any sealed lenses, my list is 17-50 Tamron, 10-17mm Tokina fisheye and a 70-200 non IS, my 24-70 hasn't come back from repair yet.

I'm going to pop down kitesurfing tomorrow and wanted to take some pics of my mates but haven't got a waterproof case how splash proof do you think my 50D would be to drips & small splashes not full on tidlewave in the face kinda stuff?

Or is there a way of giving it a helping hand with gaffer tape and a sarny bag?

what exactly do you mean by "getting in the water"? knee deep, waist deep...?

drips and very light splashes "should" be okay. i was using my 20D a couple weekends back in an all day downpour and while i had it in a waterproof cover at one point there was just as much water inside the cover. i had a couple of misfires and err99's but it soldiered on. however i wouldnt recommend getting it too wet.

but then depends how much water youll be in?

I've used my 50D in the rain before, the camera got a little wet I just wiped it off and carried on shooting. No harm done the camera is still fine. I wouldn't like to wade into waste deep water with it though if there are chances of waves splashing over me and the camera.
