canon 50mm 1.4 focus problem - more info, please help!

Hello! I posted yesterday about my 50mm not focussing. I seem to have sort of (she says) figured out the problem.. it seems that the inner focussing mechanism is jammed.. On the little number 'screen' (I don't know it's exact name!) it'll only focus manually between 1.5m - infinity.

Actually, now I'm turning the focussing ring a little faster, it's shifting all the way down to 0.45 metres but I have to turn the ring back and forth a few times. stupid thing. AF of course is completely bu*#!*ed and doesn't know what's going on.

If anyone could tell me what I can do then please please do.. I'm a damsel in distress here, with a very important shoot this weekend that needed the not-so-nifty-fifty.. grrrr!

sounds like it needs a trip to the canon service centre to me - could lend you a 1.8 if you're stuck.

Fortunately i'm borrowing a few lenses, panic over on that part (thank you though, millions!)
I found a thread on a flickr discussion board that said it's pretty common.. Do you think it'll cost a lot to repair as it's out of warranty? I'm a bit skint at the moment

New focus motor could be just over £100
