I bought a 2nd hand Canon 50mm f/1.4 some time ago and it seemed to work fine... tbh on my 7D I found it too long a focal length and so hardly used it.
One day (about 8 months after buying) I decided to use it for some fairly close up shots of an orchid... the focus kept jamming (focus ring issue I'd imagine).
Since then every time I've tried to use it I get issues as soon as I get too close to anything and the focus jams. Only way to fix this is to switch to manual focus, focus on something and then switch back to auto focus.
In other words it's buggered!
Asked the Canon repair shop in Glasgow about a rough quote and they said it would be about £390 which is £100 - £150 more expensive than just replacing it with a new one!!!
Anyone else experienced this kind of problem and know a cheaper place to get it repaired?
