Hello,

My canon 550 freezes and says that it is busy fairly frequently. I have tried to google the solution and I first came to the conclusion that it was my memory card. I have got a group 10 card now and it seems that this is not the case. Could someone please give me a list of things to eliminate or tell me that it is just the camera that is limited to being able to take and record a certain number of pictures per minute.

Your camera can only take a certain number of frames before the buffer is full and you get the busy message. The exact number depends on JPEG/RAW.

Also I think the noise reduction settings can have an effect.

When is it saying this? When you fire as many frames as possible in one go?
 
Turn long exposure NR off, as that takes a blank frame the same length as the orignal exposure, so doubles ther amount of time the shoot takes. This only effects exposures longer than a second or more I think though, so shouldnt be an issue in normal everyday shooting.
Even with a class 10 card, the buffer is only so big, so you wont be rattling of machine gun frames, but you should get around 5-10 in a row I would have thought

dont shoot raw, shoot jpg with a fast card you might never fill the buffer...
 
Well the flash delay would be charging the flash cap, Also I used to get that on my 450D but since getting a battery grip with 2 fully charged batteries and a 430ex flash I havent seen it since.
 
It's the cheap memory cards that is the problem here as I had the same thing aspecialy when shooting video but it all changed when I bit the bullet and bought a (8gb sandisc extreme 30mb transfer rate class 10) I know it is expensive but it is worth every penny as you have to remember the 550D is capable of a lot and it has large files to transfer over to the card so it has to be a good card. I also have a TDK 8gb and a transulend 8gb which also claim to be class 10 but a test revelaled that they ere more like 4.
Ps: shooting RAW and L+RAW it's a breeze with this card. It's the best £35 I've ever spent on amazon.
