Canon 550d AF Points not lighting

Hi everyone, I'm new to this so please be patient if I'm being a bit daft! I have a Canon 550d with several lenses and I just noticed a small lint through the viewfinder. It's no on a lens cos it appears on all of them and its not on the mirror, I think its on the viewfinder bit with the spots etched on it. I tried cleaning it gently with a cotton bud, and now the AF spots don't seem to work. Any ideas what I can do to fix?

Send it in to Canon for a new focussing screen as you've more than likely b%£$&ed your existing one. Next time use a bulb blower to blow it clean instead.

Lesson learnt ignore dust in the viewfinder it won't effect pictures, removing it is difficult and it will only come back!

You should never touch the focus screen!
