Hi

Does the Canon 550d auto focus in Live view? My 450d doesn't and if the 550d does it is one more thing to convince me to upgrade!

Ta

The 450D Does autofocus is live view, (Mine does atleast!), You can choose which type in the custom functions menu. One blacks out the screen(fast mode), the other is contrast detect(slower). The * button is used for focussing.

yep, 550D does, and its much easier to use.

You're quite right, but it is necessary to press the * button to focus and it is not continuous focus, so with a moving subject, you have to keep pressing the * button, making sure the focus point is over the subject.

Well i never! It seems to do mirror lock up at the same time! Sweet!

Thanks very much

oh and I shouldn't buy the 550d because............?

cos for that kinda money look at a 50d for superior everything inc af IQ build quality and feel

50D does not have video capabilities and is worse for high ISOs. It also has 35area metering compared to the new 63area metering of the 550D, less megapixels (and the 550D sensor is very close to the one of the 7D, I had both and I tested them for 100% crops). Finally the 550D has a better screen (not by much but the aspect ratio is very useful for videos).

The 50D is still better in most other areas but I just felt that it is good to point out all 550D improvements as long as you set out to do so. The 550D is a great camera for what it is, I have the 1DIV and many times I use my wive's 550D for the low weight the the 7x crop video mode that is absent on the 1DIV!!!

50d is too heavy and bulky for me. The 450d is nice and light and pretty small so the 550d should be similar if a tiny bit heavier.

50d is a couple of years old now as well
time to move on :exit:

My 550D is great- who wants to lug a heavy 50D around the hills? although if I remember correct it is weather proof.

I had forgotten video but really weight? I've only noticed weight with a 1 series 2.8 glass and flash I'm pretty sure my tripod head weighs more than a 550d :p
