Hi - has anyone ever had the Quick Control Dial (big round button on back) just pack up on them?

Half way through a shoot today, it just stopped working - rest of the camera would function, but nothing from the QCD. The camera is 1 week old!

I managed to carry on using my 7D, but I'm back there Wednesday and any help would be very, very welcome.

Thank you - Graeme.

The 5D has 2 levels of being "on" one with quick control and one without, you need to have the switch pointing to the white line above "ON" to get the QC dial to work.
From the switch being in the off position, make sure you hear 2 clicks to use the QC dial

you might have just knocked it during your shoot and not noticed

Thanks Guys, but no, it's switched to the right mark, passed the 'on' switch. Oskar - where is the lock control please?

No, I've double checked and it's in the right position - if there's any other ideas out there I'd be very grateful.

Thanks - Graeme.

Hi Graeme,

there have been reports of a few 5D2’s where the wire that is supposed to connect to the quick control dial was loose on the camera and slipped off. If thats the case, only sending it back to canon will sort it.

However, assuming as you say the on/off switch is set to fully on rather than the intermediate on position then the only other thing I would try first is a complete reset.

Remove the main battery and the internal button cell battery, leaving both out for a good 15 minutes.

Thank you Mark - sorry to ask... how do I remove the internal button battery please?

5dMkii newbie!

Its under the PC sync/remote/hdmi etc ports on the camera side, there is little tray which holds the battery (there is screw to hold it in place).

:plusone::agree:

Hope it sorts it for you.. Let us know.

Mark

OK Oskar - the deed is done and I've removed the button battery - let you know in 20 mins or so. Thanks for your help - Graeme.

Nope - no good Oskar I'm afraid - back to Canon we go. Thank god I had the 7D.

Thanks for all your help - Graeme.
