Canon 5d MK II Question

Guys,

I have a question about the 5d MK II. Right now it's a little out of my price range but I really want to get one. Do you think the price of it will fall anytime soon or will it only fall once they bring out a MK III? :thinking:

Even when it was released over a year ago, there was a little disappointment that it's focus system was a little long in the tooth.

Cameras like the 7d have shown the future and inevitably they will make it to the 5dIII. But we had to wait something like three years for the mkII, so there could be a bit of a wait yet.

So it seems unlikely that it will be replaced. That leaves no real reason for the price to drop as it's a niche product. That also means that the original 5d has retained its value well too. They actually represent pretty good value as a cheap way into full frame digital photography.

Unless you need the larger file size or video, there is something to be said for getting a 5d and replacing it with the MKIII when it is released.

Just a thought.

I am not sure what, if any, features would make me upgrade to a mk3. I think it will be next summer before the mk3 is released, and even then prices will still be 1k+ for the mk2
 
I can't see the 5D Mark II dropping below £1500 in 2010, however it'd be great if it did!
 
The problem Canon will have if they release a 5DIII with a 7D style AF system is that it will probably take sales away from their 1Ds series. If that is the case, it could be a while before a 5DIII is released.
 
That's a good point, so if it is an imminent release the price may be a fair closer to the hefty RRP of the 1DS.

I'm not sure that's the case. In the same way as the 7D and IDIV cope well together, I'd expect a 5DIII and 1DsIV to each have their own niche.
 
There is still a difference, albeit a small one, in the sensor size of the 7D and 1DIV, which may make it easier for the two cameras to co-exist in the market place. With the 5D and 1Ds both being full frame, I feel a 5D with improved AF capabilities will start to tread on some 1Ds toes.

Go get it .... I brought one a couple of months ago .. I do weddings and have a few coming up ... Last year i used my 5d mk 1's ... Since christmas i have done a number of portrait sittings , and i thougt do i use one mk1 and one mk2 for the weddings , but they answer is in the photo .. If i don't buy a second mk 2 i will not be happy with the results ..

£1500 is a good price and i can't see them falling below that for some time .. :thumbs:
 
Actually one more question....what makes it not ideal for wildlife? Is it just the AF?
 
Nothing. I know at least 2 working wildlife pros who've been using the 5DII as their main camera. AF could be better so it isn't ideal for fast moving subjects but for everything else it is bang on the money with excellent image quality. Some people have the view that you need a crop for wildlife but that depends on your subjects and available lenses.
 
means you need better lenses for wildlife (600 on ff is 400 on crop)

I find my 1d3 locks on a lot easier in poor light, not tried in any wildlife type scenarios though

I have a 5d2 and a 7d and find the 7d better for wildlife having a 1.6 crop, for things like small bird even a 500mm lens is still short so poping it on a 1.6 crop body I get the FOV of 800mm on full frame, AF is good if using centre point and had no problems tracking enything even powerboats.

The D3 still sold well with the D700 biting at its heels.
