Canon 5D mk2 or 1D mk4?

I am going to take leap into changing my hobby into a career... Yes I am sure you have heard it all before but in order to make the change and the transition a bit smoother I have decided to switch to canon for a number of reasons.

Will mainly being shooting weddings, fashion and some commercial stuff. However do I go with my initiail choice the 5D MK2 or spend a lot a more and get the 1D MK4?

Why am I even considering the 1D MK4 you may be thinking? Purely because one has come up for sale in the same town from me and if the price difference will give me significantly better results especially when shooting low light without flash for weddings and better shooting when it comes to using studios I rather start with a better body.

Any help would be appreciated.

Haha I mean MK2!! I know there is no MK3! Been reading too many blogs
 
It'll be faster than the 5DII, but being full frame I would imagine the 5DII has an edge on absolute image quality?
 
I'd go Full Frame. The 5d2 will do all you need to a very high standard.
 
Thats what I am thinking, plus the extra saving on the 5d compared to the 1d means I have money left over for nice glass... Now just on the hunt for a good deal! Its shame I waited so long as I could have saved on the canon cashback offer.
 
Given what you are shooting I would have thought the 5Dmk2 would be the best choice, FF instead of 1.3, so W/A lenses will be wide instead of cropped, could make all the difference at a wedding when 28mm means 28mm and not 36.4mm. IQ will probably be almost identical. But the 1D does have pro build quality and a massive batery etc which could be useful as you'll probably want a battery grip (for vertical shots?) on the 5D (factor in the cost etc).
Not an easy choice, I am always torn whether to use my 5D (mk1) or my 1D (mk2), I generally grab the 5D though.

Have you taken a look at Nikon? The D3 or D700 are worth looking at. Is there a reason you haven't bothered with the Sony A900? I recognise your sig, were you the guy looking to move to Canon/Nikon because Sony wasn't used much in the industry?
 
The people I am going to be working with all use canon I did look at the D700 but it looks like I am going to go with the Canon 5D MKII as I dont have to invest in many lenses as we will just be swapping between each other etc.

Just need to find a good deal now
