Canon 5D Mk2 slowing down

I have a 5D mk2 - I've been using it for time lapse recently and on RAW mode it often backs up the buffer and misses the odd shot at 1 second intervals. In JPG it doesn't seem to do this. I know that one can't expect to shoot what is effectively a long burst ad infinitum in RAW, but it does seem that the camera is generally slower to record images than it was when I bought it. This is especially true for long shutter images. My compact always used to take as long to record as it did to expose, but I'm sure the 5D2 didn't do that - but now it does.

Is it me, or has anyone else had the same slowing down issue - and is there a way of fixing it if its not just my imagination? Cheers JR
 
Have you tried reformatting the CF card in camera?

Are you shooting the same subject matter as when the camera was fast or has something changed?

Are the "slow" file sizes bigger for some reason such as being shot at higher ISO's?

Just looking for a difference that'll point to a logical explanation...
 
As long to record as to expose sounds like you have long exposure noise reduction on...
 
I think its the noise reduction, had forgotten that that increases the times. Just did a quick test and that seems to have fixed it.

Yes, card has been formatted in camera and the subject matter hasn't changed much. ISO is usually 1600 on time lapse to cope with light changes.
