Yes
I am hankering after a full-frame camera, preferably Canon as I have loads of lenses. On Ebay (UK) there are several enticing package deals from the US, like this one - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-EOS-5D-...eras?hash=item1e57dcf662&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

A 5D mark II plus three decent lenses and all the other stuff (which I don't need but what the heck, it's Ebay for them) for considerably less than Amazon.co.uk are asking for the body alone? I was wondering if anyone had bought one of these kits and experienced any problems with warranty, customs etc. It looks very tempting.

Not great lenses and add 20% onto the total cost to cover import taxes and duties.

if you buy anything from the USA the post office will deliver a blue and silver card only stating you need to go to the nearest sorting office after which you will have to pay a fee to release the package............customs doing their bit I suppose it has happened to me on all 3 occasions when I have bought in America and once for a birthday prezzie

Yeah, the lenses are ho-hum, apart from the classic little nifty fifty there. But they are all surplus and should fetch two-three hundred pounds new on Ebay. Basically all I want there is the body and the flash.

Do you always get stung for duty? I've bought a couple of pricy lenses from Hong Kong and customs left them alone. The sender marked them as "camera accessories value £9.99" or something like that. I've also bought a £500 amp from the US a few years ago without duty. I wonder if customs are under orders to extract every penny they can now that the country is financially screwed?

You don't pay vat on the camera body, just duty. Somewhere in the 5 to 7% region. Lenses - vat & duty.

:agree: or e-mail Stuart @ Digital Depot.

On another note, I seem to remember warrenty is an issue for bodies that you buy from outside UK yourself and import

I dont believe Canon Uk will honour the USA Warranty so its back the the good ol USA for any repairs.

Not that this is necessarily a problem, I bought my 20D over 4yrs ago as a grey import and never had the need for repairs, which would have been done, in my case, by the UK online company I bought from.
