Hi All,

Ive have just been told by Jessops that the Canon 5D MKII Battery Grip is now discontinued.

Does anyone know if this is true and why.
 
The BG-E6 might be discontinued as a Jessops stock item as it may had dropped in popularity with respect to the items they sell but I cant see Canon stopping the product.
 
No idea if true, but the only reason why would be because there's a 5D3 around the corner ;) It would also tie in with reduced prices over the last month or two on 5D2s... I don't think I have the money for a 5D3 but I'm getting a little more excited daily ;)

Indeed, canon will not continue producing them when a succsesor is about to be released.
 
If you can't get a Canon one have a look for a Meike grip. Absolutely bang on quality and for a fraction of the price. I've got one for both my bodies and the wifes 550D and they all work perfectly.
It's certainly interesting news about Canon stopping supplying it though, looks like it wont be long before people are either celebrating or crying at the specs of the new 5D3. I doubt very much that I'll be updating mine very soon though, plenty of life in her yet.
 
I've tried three Chinese copies, all fitted well, but killed the batteries every time.
No idea why, but if anyone wants this one, you're welcome to it.
 
I didn't have a great experience with 5D2 3rd party grip. I wonder if there are more differences the more expensive the grip gets?
 
Due to the £260 rrp price and the soon release of new cameras they will be moving to the next kind. Glad I've got a good genuine one.

As far as I've seen and tested. Genuine canon is always best. It may cost but it's certainly the best.
 
I'd go for a mieke grip as well, I've had a number of them and never had a problem. They are well up to Canons standard and unlike a lot of cheaply ones they have an alloy chassis the same as canons.

Why they would discontinue them is strange because you can still buy canon grips for some of he models the are lot older than the 5d2.
