Anyone know what Canon's plans are with regards to the next '5D'?

Cheers.

5D Mk2.0.1?

R2 D2?

I think it's a fairly safe bet that it will be a full frame sensor in a 7D-spec body. And that would be a pretty damn good camera, without any sensor upgrade.

The 5DII came out after the 1DsIII and peed off a few people who'd spent a load of money on that camera, mainly for the sensor. The 5D2's output is fractionally better than that, at half the price.

So I think we'll see a new 1Ds4 first, which will show us what the new sensor will be capable of, when it will be slotted into a 7D body shortly after. Sounds fantastic, but it's got to be at least a year away surely?

I'd like a 5D, but I'm no hurry at the moment - I think I'll just sit back and wait........... unless I get too impatient!!! :-)

If you do that bud, you'll be waiting for ever. There is always a newer better model just around the corner.

I bought a 5D2 last week because I think the time is right. Prices are now about as low as I think they will go (£2300 for a 24-105L kit) yet we're a year away from any replacement, and 18 months before it becomes available at sensible money (and it will certainly not be cheaper, even then).

And nobody actually knows what the replacement will be like, what it will cost, or when it will arrive. Seize the moment :D

I seized the moment on Saturday and made the upgrade from a 40D to 5D2. Just hoping for some reasonable/interesting conditions to get out and about this coming weekend
