Hi,

Still undecided which full frame to go for i have seen a camera that is decribed as "only a few shots taken , bought 5 months ago new , Canon 5d mk1"

The serial number underneath starts with a 0

Im sure ive read somewhere that the serials starting with a 1 were the earlier batch and the ones starting with a 2 had a slightly better screen but never heard any reference to a 0?

COuld it be that the 0 are the newest as the camera looks immaculate and the box and its contents look new enough too?

AFAIK, the 0 and 1 srs had the older LCD screen which exhibited some colour problems....not a big issue really but 2 srs onwards had the problem fixed.

So apart from the screen it should be ok?

It does look in mint condition

There was also a problem with the glue used to fix the mirror to the frame but only became an issue in very hot climates....I believe that it's still a free fix but nothing to worry about.

Well no chance of glue working loose in the UK haha

So would you say £900 for a brand new looking 5d boxed with all accesories in the box a good price?

Its immaculate and comes with a 24-85mm canon usm lens (which i will sell on as i will get a 24-105mm L

It's at the high end of the range but may be worth a little premium if it's from a trusted source. The lens may be hard to move on for anything worthwhile.

Hi,

Well ive seen a few of the lenses go on ebay for £150ish , and id be happy with £100 to lessen the outlay of the 5d.

I will say one thing about the 5d. It seems alot harder to take a sharp/decent shot than i can with the new range of slrs

Why might that be?

The only one I can find in the completed listings went with a film body for £78 +p&p
Ebay can be special though if bidding fever takes hold

Difficult one to answer as I've never been aware of this problem. The 5D's sensor/amp doesn't have a particularly strong AA filter but the FF format will find out any under par lenses that show peripheral softness.

So slapping a 24-105 f4 lens on this would definitely give me very sharp images?

I'll get slapped around for saying it but I don't really consider the 24-105/4 to be a particularly sharp lens. It's got an excellent range on a FF body but that's more where its strengths lie.

Slap a 35/1.4 85/1.2 or 135/2 on it and you should see what you want.
If it must be a zoom then the 24-70/2.8 is likely to get you close enough to your aspirations.
