hi there

I'm looking to upgrade from my 5d, I'm thinking of either the mark 2 or the 6d, mainly shoot landscapes and architecture with the occasional portrait.

But I'm not sure which of these would be the best option and the comparison reviews aren't massively helping, I can't afford the mark 3 so that's out of the question.

Thoughts please ideally from those who have used both

cheers Joe, a friend reckons the 6 would be better, seems to be cheaper so wasn't sure if it would be better
 
I'm not a Canon shooter anymore but one thing I would be wary of is bodies with a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000. Now and again I'm a shallow DoF fan and if you want shallow DoF in good light a shutter speed limit of 1/4000 could limit you to... well, it depends how bright the light is but in bright light you'll need ND's to use wide apertures. It's relatively easy to exceed 1/4000 for me even in the dim north of England and I really don't like juggling ND's.

I would think he would never/rarely reach that Limit in the UK. In my experience I only once was limited out in the Desert of Sóo one time in 48c heat and a lot of sun!!:D

Newer body, newer tech and superb wifi remote function great for wide angle shots from distance, get one you won't regret it :)

If you're an f8 and be there kind of guy or someone who shoots at even smaller apertures then I'd agree but Middlesbrough (where I live) and the surrounding area is hardly the blazing tropics and on occasion I have been limited to f7.something. That's an extreme and it's more normal to be limited to something between f2.8 and f4 so for a prime shooter and lover of shallow DoF it's an issue if you think that fitting and removing ND's is a PITA. I must have a metric ton of pictures with shutter speeds in excess of 1/4000 and an unknown weight of shots taken with cameras with a limit of 1/4000 when using ND's.

It may not be an issue but as it's a major consideration for me I thought I'd mention it.

I shoot normally at f/4 & f/5.6 all the time, but I agree a good point to raise none the less :)

Hi woof woof,can you please direct me to what you think is a good explanation of this nd's and shuttervspeed thing,all sounds complicated,in bright sunlight dont you use an nd filter? Id never heard of using it how you said,no wonder some of my shots could be better.,

thanks guys for the observations, most of my photography is around long exposures so not hugely concerned by the max speed issue, I think it's time I started selling things to get some cash in... 6d it is it seems
