Hello All

Am interested in getting a canon 5d mark 1 but what put m eoff was the shutter speed and the no built on light assistence for AF.

Now the light i dont really care about but the shutter speed did worry me

I take it this camera is best for portraiture and weddings etc.

Can someone give me a bit of advice on how they operate, best settings, best place to look to buy one, how they feel etc

I really want one but i can find a video anywhere on youtube to show me the ins and outs cos everyone is posting 5d mark 2 vids

Many Thanks

what?

can you explain what you mean by "the shutter speed is putting you off"?

No offence meant here, but if you need to ask those questions it suggests that you don't need a 5D. Ask yourself why you want one.

Do you mean the sync speed of 1/200 sec??

the review i got here says 3 frames a second i was like sure it aint but i was questioning it

5D is a full frame camera, best suited for portraits, landscapes etc. The quality from the sensor is lovely

What do you want to shoot?

yer its not built for like sports photography is what i was trying to get at

i meant frames per second not shutter speed

sorry guys

weddings are the next thing on the agenda but i like doing portraiture as well hence why i heard so much good about it.

thing is i would keep the 30d because i love shooting planes when i can get out to do it

Hopefully soon i will be going out more to do photography so i would keep the 30d for that

Its just i hear so much good about full frame and i dont know whether an upgrade is order for potrait and wedding

im only asking for opinion cos i wont be upgrading for a while

I wouldn't get too hung up on full frame or cropped frame. I have both and each camera has its advantage and disadvantage.

I went from cropped (20D) to full frame ( 5D) primarily for the image the 5D produced. It was better than the 20D. This was commented on by a couple of editors who didn't know I had changed cameras. They were impressed by the image quality improvement.

So chose the camera for the results it gives, be it full frame or cropped. Frames per second rate may be a factor. Remember the bigger the sensor the slower the fps will be.

As for the 20D, it still gets an airing, in fact it's out tomorrow. Horses for courses.

might have to try before i buy me thinks and see how good image quality really is

image quality is partly down to the prevalence of nice shiny L glass on full frame bodies and the low signal noise I think, because of the larger sensor size.

for sports, the cropped bodies surely would be better all round...getting closer to the action and with the faster FPS>

the lack of an AF light is perhaps due to it's lack of internal flash. you will need an off camera flash for wedding work.

afaik all the hand holding that comes with a 40/50D is gone with the older canon 5D
is this right for your work??
