Canon 600d focus problem

Hi all, I've been asked to have a look at a mates 600d, it has a focussing problem where it will not autofocus (yes its turned on on the lens)
on anything using the viewfinder but it will when in liveview.
I have reset the settings to factory, no custom settings and tried my lenses on it and theyre all the same.
Is there anything stupid I've missed in the menus? I even tried back button focus and its still the same.
Just want to make sure its broken before he goes back to shop with it!

Try cleaning the lens contacts and trying a different lens aswell.
Normal autofocus does rely on the lens as if it didn't then why would some lenses tend to back focus etc... I don't know why this is and I havent looked at how the focusing works. In live view it works differently.

Thanks for the reply Gareth, I have tried my three lenses on the body and all behaved exactly the same. I gave it back to my mate and he said he was just going to take it back to Currys. The lenses just kept seeking, unless in liveview. Never mind he should get it sorted, it is under warranty at least.
