Canon 60D...is there going to be one soon?

Yes
Does anyone know if there is likely to be a 60D from Canon, fairly soon? Some time ago there were rumours there would be one in Feb 2010, but I haven't heard anything lately. I want to upgrade from my 40D, as it's quite noisy in low light/high ISO levels, but I definitely don't want a 7D (it also has noise issues) and although the 5Dmkll ticks most of my boxes, I'm still not convinced I need FF. Money wise, I'm guessing a 60D...if it ever happens... will be cheaper than a 7D too.

Does anyone have any insider info?

Well, I would think that Canon would not be releasing a 60D any time soon. They have just launched the 7D really and the 1D Mark IV, so a 60D would not bring anything really into the line-up.

As to the 40D's noise issues, I would say that the camera copes really well in low light, but maybe that's just my opinion.

The 7D is a high end APS-C format camera,

Surely they're not going to abandon the mid-range xxD Series?

I think it's on the cards that we'll see a 60D - probably in the first half of next year, as a replacement for the 50D. I don't see the launch of the 7D affecting that as it's a different (in fact completely new) model line.

What new features it might have over the 50D though is anybody's guess.

I wouldn't expect the next xxD to be any less noisy than the 40D if recent updates are anything to go by. The real achievement seems to be keeping the noise levels fairly constant whilst increasing the pixel count significantly.

All IMHO, of course.

The older Canons had good noise control IMVHO, they managed to tread the very fine line between soft /noisey. Notably D30,10D 20D. Only my opinion of course. Personally, can't wait for the Nikon D90 upgrade - D90 will be in my price range! :D

Agree with Bob entirely.
